The Thornton Adjustable Positioner® (TAP®) is an oral appliance (kind of like an athletic mouth guard) that is worn while sleeping to help reduce snoring or treat sleep apnea.

By using advanced technology the TAP® reduces sleep apnea without the need for surgery, medications, or other therapies that are often inconvenient.

Treat Sleep Apnea and Snoring Without a CPAP
By holding the mandible forward during sleep, the TAP® medical device can treat troubled breathing and alleviate snoring and sleep apnea. The forward position of the mandible prevents the tongue and soft tissue of the throat from blocking the airway.

The TAP® is comprised of 2 parts, an upper and lower tray. The upper tray has a socket that attaches to the lower tray, moving the lower jaw forward. This movement prevents the soft tissue in the throat from blocking the airway. An adjustment key allows you to adjust the movement of the lower jaw for maximum effectiveness and comfort.

Designed for Maximum Effectiveness and Comfort
The TAP® is designed to let you be actively involved in your own treatment. If you begin to snore again after a few weeks of treatment, or have another apneic episode, you can adjust the TAP® yourself.

This not only saves you money and time, it also makes the treatment more effective and comfortable than if adjustments were only made on dental visits.

The metal components found in the TAP® are composed of medical grade stainless steel. There is also a TAP® Nickel-Free (TAP® NF) that is made of a nickel free, bio-compatible alloy to those who may be allergic to nickel.

The outer shells are a thermoplastic orthodontic polycarbonate hard material, and the TAP® is then available in two significantly different linings, ThermAcryl™ and Triple Laminate.

The TAP® ThermAcryl Lining
The ThermAcryl™ lining is a unique polymer that becomes soft when heated, so it can be automatically molded to the unique shape of your mouth. Once the ThermAcryl™ hardens, it has less than 1% shrinkage so it snaps tightly over your teeth. The ThermAcryl™ appliance can be easily relined and modified to accommodate your changing dentistry, saving you money.

The TAP® Triple Laminate (TL) Lining
The Triple Laminate (TL) lining offers a different comfort level and seating approach than that of the ThermAcryl™. The TL lining is a dual laminate thermoplastic orthodontic material, which is soft and flexible and suctions around your teeth for a firm grip. For some patients, the TL lining is a much more comfortable option than the ThermAcryl™.
